NSW: Hundreds of cars impounded anti drag racing crackdown
Hundreds of cars have been impounded by New South Wales police over the past two years
in a state-wide crackdown on drag-racing.
Figures released in state parliament show police have seized 926 cars from motorists
racing their vehicles.
Vaucluse MP PETER DEBNAM, who proposed the car impounding legislation, says the laws
have reduced street-racing in his electorate, which included the racing hotspot of Bondi.
Under the laws, cars are impounded for three months, with motorists forced to pay towing
and storage costs.
A second offence allows police to confiscate the cars permanently.
